Visa characteristics
A visitor’s visa usually allows you to visit Canada for up to six months. There are two types of visa. A multiple entry visa allows you to make multiple visits of up to six months each, without having to reapply between them. It can be valid for up to 10 years or until one month before your passport expires, whichever is earlier. A single entry visa lets you make one visit, usually of up to six months. Once you leave Canada you will need a new visa to enter again, unless you only travel to the USA or St Pierre and Miquelon.
Visa fee
The fee for both single and multiple entry visas is 100 CAD (Canadian dollars, about 90 USD). For family groups the maximum total fee is capped at 500 CAD (450 USD).
Process at the immigration desk of airport or land boarder
The Canadian Border Services Agency are very thorough and check the documents of all visitors. They will look for evidence that you plan to leave Canada at the end of your visit. If they suspect you may try to stay in Canada they may require a cash bond to ensure compliance with your visa conditions. Once they have approved your entry they will stamp your passport and tell you how long you can stay. Usually this is the six months specified by the visa, but CBSA officers have the authority to impose a shorter limit.
Tips
- Make sure you have proof of return or onward flights with you at the immigration desk.
- The CBSA pay close attention to children. If you are travelling with children make sure you can prove you are their parent or guardian, or that you have the parent or guardian’s consent to take them to Canada.

I have no idea. Your question is way beyond the scope of simple cases of tourist visas as described in this article.
Hello! Really thank you very much for the information you wrote here. I am last year MSc Student in Engineering sector in the University of Italy. I had one question which became a headache for me. Last year August 2016 I had an academic conference in Canada and after some processes, my paper is taken for presentation and I got acceptance and invitation letter. I provided all the documents and financial means. Which is bank balance for my stay. Embassy Denied my visa with the comment( we are not sure about your return). I Transferred that paper for this year and I had a plan to present this year. Is that possible for my to apply after only 1 year? If yes what should I do to strength my application? If there are any advisors I need a help, please. Thanks
Hello Yoseph,

Hi
I am from India and want to apply canada tourist visa to celebrate Christmas and New year in December but some body told me that travel in winter is not a sense and embassy can refuse the visa.
Can any body help me
Actually I have just finished my summer holidays with my wife in London and Europe
Thanks for the tips. My daughter has a different surname to mine so whenever we travel overseas I always take a copy of her birth certificate as well as a letter from her father . My opinion, it is better to be prepared when travelling with children than end up being refused entry.
You’re absolutely right about this, Zoe.
Thank you for your comment.
Great and thorough advice here, thanks for the heads up. Certainly looks easier than getting your Australian Tourist Visa!
